Ayat ini disebut Ayatul Kursi kerana di dalamnya terdapat perkataan ‘KURSI’, yang membawa maksud ‘Tempat Duduk Yang Megah Lagi Yang Mempunyai Martabat’. Iaitu syiar atas kebesaran Tuhan yang meliputi 7 lapis langit dan 7 lapis bumi. Ayat kursi biasanya dibacakan sebelum tidur dan semasa ingin keluar rumah sebagai pelindung diri dari Bacaan itu adalah Ayat Kursi. Ayat Kursi sendiri merupakan salah satu ayat dalam Alquran surah Al Baqarah ayat 255. Keutamaan ayat Kursi ini tercantum dalam sebuah hadis riwayat Tirmidzi. Rasulullah SAW bersabda, “ Barangsiapa membaca surah Haamim al-mu’min sampai (ayat) ‘ilaa al-mashir’, dan ayat kursi ketika pagi hari, maka ia akan Hadith on Quran: Reciting Ayat al-Kursi after each prayer. Abu Umamah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “ Whoever recites the ‘verse of the Throne’ after every prescribed prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and entry into Paradise but his death. ”. عَنْ أَبِي Ayat-ul-kursi: Recite Ayatul Kursi in Arabic after every prayer.
